Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Check out what 2nd grade has been up to! Bucket filling has been the talk of the town in these halls. But I’m sure you’re wondering what’s bucket filling?
In a new twist on the Golden Rule, the Bucket Fillers’ books explain that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our good thoughts and feelings. When our buckets are full, we are happy; when they are empty, we are sad. It’s important to know that we can fill our own bucket and so can others. We can also dip into it.
“Bucket fillers” are those who help without being asked, give hugs and compliments, and generally spread their love and good feelings to others. The simple metaphor of a bucket helps even preschoolers understand the importance of consideration and love, particularly towards those who bully. People who “dip” into our bucket often rob us of happy feelings by refusing to help with a task or by saying or doing cruel things.
I have attached a link to the Bucket Fillers website. There is something for everyone! Help spread kindness and love in your family, community, and even your workplace. Also, below is some of the ways the 2nd graders learned they could be bucket fillers or a bucket dippers. There are also pictures of all the buckets from the 2nd grade class. When a student receives 10 stickers they get a special prize!
The new school counselor page is up on the SFdS website. Have a look!
