Kindergarten Program

About our Program

St. Francis de Sales offers a full day Kindergarten program that is directly aligned to the academic content standards set forth by the state of Ohio and the Diocese of Cleveland.  While providing your child with a challenging curriculum, we also strive to offer a learning environment that is safe, fun, and centered on Christ.

We use a variety of whole group, small group, and independent learning opportunities, which enables us to meet the needs of each and every student.  The use of technology through computers, Promethean boards, and ipads is incorporated into all subject areas as well.  We also value the importance of student centered free play activities as an important part of the children’s growth and development.

A day in the Life of a Kindergarten Student

While the exact time of activities changes from year to year, a typical day in Kindergarten will include the following activities.

  • Whole and Small Group Math Activities
  • Morning Snack/Recess
  • Whole and Small Group Language Arts (Reading, Phonics, English, Writing)
  • Literacy Centers
  • Lunch and Recess
  • Religion
  • Science, Social Studies, and Health

The students also participate in weekly special classes (gym, art, music, computer, spanish).

The Kindergarten classes also attend weekly mass with the rest of the school community.

St. Francis de Sales

Saint Francis de Sales was born in 1567 and is the patron saint of writers. He earned a doctorate in both canon and civil law from the University of Padua. He was a priest and Bishop of Geneva. His book, Introduction to a Devout Life (1609), addresses how ordinary life can become extraordinary with God. Pope Alexander VII canonized him.
Friendship begun in this world will be taken up again, never to be broken off.
